Public Transport in Dhaka. File PhotoThe transport owners have declared that vehicle movement on the roads in Dhaka will remain normal on Sunday (Feb 1) defying the BNP's call for dawn-to-dusk shutdown rejecting the city polls.
"The Dhaka city polls were held in a fair manner. So, BNP's shutdown is irrational," General Secretary of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Khandokar Anayetullah told Bangla Tribune on Saturday (Feb 1).
The public transport will run on Dhaka streets on Sunday, he added.
If vehicles face damage during the strike, BNP will be held responsible, the transport owners leader warned.
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at a media briefing, announced the shutdown, rejecting the results of the elections to the Dhaka North and South city corporations, which it has described as a 'farce'.
Meanwhile, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif has said their activists will be on the streets to resist the shutdown on Sunday.
