Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has accused the BNP of mobilising "outsiders" ahead of the Dhaka city polls.

" BNP is bringing outsiders -- including criminals -- to Dhaka city, which may hamper free, fair and credible elections," he said.

Quader, road transport and bridges minister, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters on current issues on Wednesday (Jan 29).

Dhaka city corporations are scheduled to go to polls on February 1.

Replying to a question about the role of law enforcers, the Awami League leader said the Election Commission should remain alert to ensure a free, fair and credible election.

Quader trashed BNP's allegation that ruling party candidates are violating electoral code of conduct.

"We want the election to be free and fair. The government will provide all-out support in this regard," he said.
