A court in Dhaka has sentenced Destiny 2000 Ltd’s managing director Rafiqul Amin to three years in prison in a case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for not filing his wealth statement.
Judge Shamim Ahmed of the Special Judge Court-8 of Dhaka also slapped a fine of Tk 5 million in his presence on Tuesday (Jan 28).
According to the case documents, on June 15, 2016, the draft watchdog served a notice asking Rafiqul Amin to submit his wealth statement to them within seven days.
Later, the ACC, based on his prayer, gave him seven days more for submitting the wealth statement but he did not submit it.
On Sept 8, 2016, ACC filed the case against him with Ramna police for not submitting the statement.
The commission pressed charges against him on Jun 6, 2017, while he was indicted in the case on Mar 12, 2018.
Destiny Group has amassed Tk 28.62 million investments from clients for its so-called ‘Destiny Multi-purpose Cooperative’ and ‘Tree Plantation Project’.
Rafiqul Amin has already been serving time since 2012 in two ACC cases filed for embezzling Tk 40 billion and money laundering cases.
