A teenage boy has been killed in the capital's Wari on Monday (Jan 27) after being run over by a vehicle of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
Tenth-grader 'Abir' was hit by the vehicle on the street in front of his school around 11.30am, said Sub Inspector Jahir of the local Wari police.
The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, he said.
The 16-year-old was supposed to take the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, slated to start from Feb 3, from the local Wari High School.
He had gone to the school to attend a farewell programme for SSC examinees, according to classmates.
"We had gathered at the school for the farewell. A reckless WASA vehicle ran over Abir just in front of the school," said classmate Russell.
The incident has erupted protests, prompting agitated classmates to take to the street and block the Wari Street.

DMP's Wari Division Additional Commissioner (Petrol) Md Ziaul Alam told the media that traffic movement in the area normalised after the students moved away from the road.
