Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has rescued 13 Rohingya women from a human trafficking ring in Dhaka’s Aftabnagar.
The elite forces also arrested two members of the trafficking ring in possession of a large number of passports, fake birth certificates during a raid at a house on Road No 40 in Aftabnagar on Sunday (Jan 26), said RAB 3 Operation Officer ABM Faijul Islam.
The arrestees are Kabir Ahmed, 40 and Md Imran, 28, hailing from Cox’s Bazar.
Being tipped-off, a RAB team busted the house, which trafficking ring member Kabir ranted seven months ago to accommodate the Rohingya women to send them to Dubai and Malaysia, Islam said.
The ring members prepared passports in cooperation with some dishonest immigration officials and attempted to sell the trapped women to the international trafficking rings, he added.
RAB is trying to nab the rest of the ring members.
The rescued Rohingya women were sent to the refugee camps, Islam said.
