ACC clears charge sheet against 3 Farmers Bank officials

On Wednesday (Jan 22), the charge sheets were approved during a meeting of the graft watchdog.
The accused officials in the case are – the bank’s Bashundhara branch's former assistant vice president and manager Mohammad Shamsul Hasan Bhuiyan, former senior executive officer and operations manager Mahbub Ahmad and former credit in-charge Md Kawsar Hossain.
The case was filed with Dhaka’s Bhatra police on Nov 7, 2018, and investigated by ACC Deputy Director Md Shahidur Rahman.
According to the case documents, one Afroza Begum, owner of Azmir Electronics, opened a current account with the bank's Bashundhara branch, which was never used by her for any transactions.
The accused officials issued a cheque book without the client’s consent and made transactions several times..
Later, Afroza applied for a Tk 10 million loan from the bank and was cleared for Tk 8 million, said the anti-graft body.
The bank officials allegedly colluded to embezzle Tk 7.7 million through forged documents, it added.
