Mozammel Huq Chowdhury of the passenger welfare association (Jatri Kalyan Samity) has been vocal against irregularities in the sector for a decade. He also served in prison for the case of a transport worker.
But there are allegations of taking unfair advantages against Mozammel. He is also accused of being involved in the trade of CNG auto rickshaws without licence.
Though Mizammel Huq hails from Chattogram, he currently stays in Narayanganj in a rented house for which he pays Tk. 6000 per month. His relatives claim that he often faces problems paying the rent.

On Sept 5, 2018, Mizammel was arrested in an extortion case and at that time, his wife Rizu Akhter, claimed that her husband works in an online paper for a low salary However, Bangla Tribune research showed that Mozammel bought huge land in Chandnaish in Chattogram at a cost of Tk 15 million.

Mozammel says he bought the land with his savings. The issue is currently with the ACC.
It’s also believed that Mozammel invested Tk. 30 lakh at a CNG showroom run by his younger brother.
Speaking on the showroom, Mozammel said “it’s true I have a showroom where I invested Tk. 10 lakh. One of my relatives has a CNG selling business in Chattogram and gives me the vehicles to sell at my showroom; 4-5 CNG’s are sold every month which brings some profit for me.”
Some of his CNGs have posters saying Bangladesh Development Journalists’ Association’ and the banner also mentions Mozammel as a journalist though the name of his media house is not mentioned.
Reportedly, these CNGs do not have registration numbers.
However, Mozammel claims that he has been working for Chattogram based papers since he was a student and currently works for Daily Life.
“Since I am involved in a social movement several sections of the government are involved in spreading malicious lies about me.”
Vice president of Jatri Kalyan Samity, Khairul Amin, said “sometimes we help Mozammel who often works as a broker. He goes to the secretariat regularly and may have made some money from deals there.”
