Police have held a man with a firearm after he was beaten by Dhaka University students following a altercation at Dhaka's Shahbagh area.
Witnesses said that one man driving a black Toyota Allion came out of the car during the Shahbagh intersection blockade and demanded that his car be allowed to pass through.
When the students refused, he pulled out a pistol and aimed it at the students that enraged the protesting students. They then started beating him.
Later, police intervened and rescued the man, also recovering a licensed shotgun from his car.
The man, Alif Rusdi (45) was taken to Shahbagh police station along with his wife and niece.
