Seize vehicles emitting excessive fumes: HC

MEHEDI HASAN/File PhotoThe High Court has ordered the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to seize vehicles that are responsible for too much emission of fumes.
The HC bench of justices FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Kamrul Quader passed the order after hearing a supplementary petition on Monday (Jan 13).
Advocate Manzil Murshid filed the supplementary petition on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
The High Court bench also instructed there be a way to determine the "economic life" of a vehicle under the Road Transport Act, and that vehicles whose lifespan exceed the economic life be taken off the streets.
The bench also set a date for Feb 2 for the director general of the Department of Environment to appear before the court and explain what steps have been taken to curb pollution.
