ACC summons public works’ additional chief engineer

SAZZAD HOSSAIN/File PhotoThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will interrogate the additional chief engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) and two others on Thursday (Jan 16) in its investigation into tender manipulation at the government department.
On Monday (Jan 13), ACC Director Syed Iqbal Hossain forwarded the summon notice to the PWD’s Moshle Uddin, Managing Director of National Development Engineers (NDI) Razaul Mostafiz and the owner of M Jamal & Co, Md Jamal Uddin, asking them to be present at the ACC headquarters on Thursday.
According to ACC, there are allegations against Moshle Uddin, Razaul Mostafiz and Jamal Uddin that they took bribe from a top government-listed contractor GK Shamim and helped him to get government jobs.
On Sept 20, RAB raided Shamim’s residence and office in the city’s Niketon and seized eight firearms, a huge amount of ammunition, Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) worth Tk 1.65 bullion and nearly Tk 20 million in cash, a large stash of US and Singaporean dollars and some foreign liquor, officials said. Seven of his armed bodyguards were also arrested.
On Sept 30, ACC started investigation over his illegal wealth.
On Oct 21, ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Salahuddin filed a case against Shamim. Later, the graft watchdog quizzed Shamim when he named Moshle Uddin, Razaul Mostafiz and Jamal Uddin.
