Cargo handling graft: Bail for 10 Biman officials

FILE PHOTOA court in Dhaka has granted bail to 10 officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in a case filed over misappropriating Tk 1.18 billion by not realizing the national flag carrier's cargo handling charges.
Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order after they surrendered to the court on Monday (Jan 13), courts sources said.
Eight of those who secured the bail are former assistant manager in Bima’s cargo department. They are Lutfe Jamal, Mosharraf Hossain Talukder, Rajiv Hasan, Nasir Uddin Talukder, KN Alam, Syed Ahmed Patwari, Monir Ahmed Mazumder, and Shahjahan.
The two others are former general (import) AKM Manjurul Haque and assistant manager (cargo import) Fazlul Haque.
On Dec 3, last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission sued 16 officials of Biman including a former director and a former deputy general manager on allegation of causing a Tk 1.18 billion loss to the government exchequer.
ACC’s Assistant Director Md Nasir Uddin filed a case with its Dhaka's integrated district office-1 accusing 16 Biman officials causing a Tk 1.18 billion loss to the government by not realizing the national flag carrier's cargo handling charges.
They were been accused of being involved in corruption and abuse of power from 2012 to 2017, leading the state to incur the loss.
