Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated inquiring Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) councillor Tarequzzaman Rajib over alleged corruption and abuse of public office.
On Sunday (Jan 12), Rajib has been taken to Shegunbagicha-based ACC headquarters from the Dhaka Central Jail for interrogation.
According to sources, a team of the graft watchdog led by its Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury has interrogated him.
A councillor of ward-33 of DNCC, Rajib was arrested from Bashundhara Residential Area during a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) drive on Oct 19.
During the raid, the elite force seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a foreign-made pistol and a magazine with three bullets, Tk 33,000 in cash, and a passport with him.
RAB later searched his Mohammadpur house and office, where they found a cheque of Tk 50 million. They suspect that Rajib has already removed all things, which can relate him to his alleged unscrupulous activities.
On the next day, RAB handed Rajib over to the capital’s Bhatara police, filing two cases against him.
ACC started a case against him on Nov 6 in charge of amassing Tk 261.63 million worth illegal wealth.
