Abrar murder: Media circular for fugitive suspects ordered

File Photo/Mahmud Hossain OpuA Dhaka court has ordered media circulars against the four fugitive suspects in the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abar Fahad.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court gave the order on Sunday (Jan 5) for newspaper circulars asking the suspects to appear before it.
The court has ordered the advertisement and an update on the suspects to be filed on Jan 13.
The suspects are, Morsheduzzaman Jishan, Eheshamul Rabbi Tanim, Morshed Amatya Islam and Mostafa Rafid.
On Dec 3, the same court ordered a freeze on the assets of these four suspects.
On Nov 13, the investigators charged 25 people over the murder. The police said that during the probe, it was revealed that 11 people directly took part in the killing while the rest of the 14 were involved some way or the other. The investigators filed name of 60 witnesses and 21 pieces of evidences with the court in the chargesheet.
The police pressed charges against Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Anik Sarker, Ifti Mosharraf Shokal, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Meftahul Islam Jion, Muntasir Alam Jemmy, Khandaker, Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir, Mujahidur Rahman, Muhtasim Fuad, Moniruzzaman Monir, Akash Hossain, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Majedul Islam, Shamim Billah, Meyaj Abu Huraira, ASM Nazmus Sadat, Ishtiak Ahmed Munna, Amit Saha, Mizanur Rahman, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, SM Mahmud Setu and Rafi.
On Oct 7, Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, was beaten to death inside his dormitory.
A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League's BUET unit leaders and activists bludgeoned Abrar to death allegedly for his social media post criticizing the Bangladesh-India deal on sharing the water of Feni River.
Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with the capital's Chawkbazar police the day of the murder.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for him and capital punishment for the murderers.
The BUET authorities also banned the activities of all political student bodies on the campus amid the student protest.
