Biman cleaners held with over 2kgs gold

Arrested cleaners of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in charge of carrying gold on Saturday (Jan 4)Police at the Dhaka airport have arrested three cleaners of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in possession of gold weighing over 2 kilograms on Saturday (Jan 4).
“Twenty gold bars were found concealed inside the shoes of cleaner Sumon Shikdar at the concourse hall of the airport. He was detained with two colleagues – Shahin Hossain and Belal Akon,” said Additional Superintendent Alamgir Hossain of Armed Police Battalion based at the airport.
“They will be pressed with smuggling charges,” he added.
According to airport sources, the trio had entered into an aircraft for cleaning after it was operated for an Abu Dhabi-Chattogram-Dhaka flight.
They were searched after leaving the plane by the police, when scanners detected metals in possession of Sumon.
During initial interrogation, Sumon said one Kalam, a Biman technician, promised him to pay Tk 20,000 for retrieving the gold bars, which officials said estimated to be worth Tk 11.6 million.
