National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) The High Court has ordered to halt the pensions and other benefits of the recently-retired chief of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) Md Moarraf Hossen over the use of equipment for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The court also issued a rule asking why the hospital’s negligence in the Artificial Respiratory Ventilator kept lying around should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman gave the order on Thursday (Jan 2).
The HC ordered forming a probe panel over the matter and file a report within 30 days.
The court's order came after Supreme Court lawyers brought an article regarding the matter by a national daily to the court’s attention.
According to the report, almost 12 years ago, eight ventilators were procured for NICRH but hadn’t been used even once.
It added the equipment was not set up despite a central oxygen facility being available for the last three years.
Moreover, the ventilators are now inoperable as their motherboards have been stolen.
