Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained DNCC ward councillor Tarequzzaman Rajib from a house at Bashundhara Residential area in Dhaka on Saturday (Oct 19).The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has brought narcotics charges against Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Councillor Tarequzzaman Rajib.
On Monday (Dec 30), the elite police unit filed the charge sheet with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal.
According to it, expelled Jubo League leader Rajib was patronising drug peddling at Mohammadpur and Adabar area for a long time.
He has also involved extortion, land-grabbing, by which he had amassed wealth using his office, according to investigators.
The DNCC Ward-33 councillor was arrested on Oct 19 in a raid from a flat at Dhaka's Bashundhara Residential Area.
During the raid, RAB seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a firearm, a magazine with three bullets, Tk 33,000 in cash, and a passport from the flat.
RAB later searched his Mohammadpur house and office, but could not find anything except a cheque of Tk 50 million. They suspect that Rajib had already removed documents which could have incriminated him.
The next day, RAB started two cases against him before handing over to the capital’s Bhatara police.
