The police have denied the BNP permission to hold rally considering public hazard for blocking roads on a working day.
“We will not allow any political programme, which causes roadblocks on working days,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief Md Safiqul Islam told the media on Monday (Dec 30).
Meanwhile, BNP announced fresh demonstration for Tuesday (Dec 31) across the capital to protest the denial.
“Law enforcers have obstructed BNP’s peaceful rally. Naya Paltan area has been covered with police like a warzone,” said Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
BNP will demonstrate at every unit of Dhaka metropolitan area on Tuesday, he added.
BNP had announced to hold a rally to observe what it says is ‘democracy-killing day’ in front of the central party office at capital’s Naya Paltan on Monday afternoon, marking the first anniversary of the 11th parliamentary election.
