The Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) militants arrested on Thursday (Dec 19), had planned to carry out sudden attacks on the police from behind with sharp weapons, says the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
“After forensic tests we came to know of their nefarious plans. In three months, 23 members of the group were arrested and efforts are underway to nab the rest,” RAB-4 chief Mozammel Huq said during a media briefing on Thursday (Dec 19).
The elite police unit arrested Ariful Karim Chowdhury, Mehedi Hassan Shakil, Abdullah Al Mamun, and Nazmul Hassan from Dhaka for their alleged links to the banned militant outfit.At that time, inflammatory books, leaflets, electronic circuits, devices, batteries and mobiles were seized from them.
Arrested Ariful Karim was the amir of one section and served nearly two years in jail after being arrested, Huq said.
He was previously a member of Harkatul Jihad and joined ABT after coming out of prison and used to maintain online connections with militants, he added.Mehedi Hassan Babu is a student of para medical and had been associated with ABT for the last two years, Al Mamun is an Alim second year student and Nazmul used to work at a developer company.
Huq said that efforts are being made to arrest the rest of the ABT members.
