Keraniganj factory fire: Three more victims die

On Wednesday (Dec 11) around 5pm, a fire broke out at Keraniganj plastic factoryThree more victims of Keraniganj plastic factory fire succumbed to burn injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, raising the death toll to 17.
On Sunday (Dec 15), Muktakim died around 6:30am, Rajjak around 10:30am and Abu Sayeed around 11:30am while undergoing treatment, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) burn unit Chief Coordinator Dr Shamanta Lal Sen.
As many as 15 burn victims are still receiving treatment at DMCH and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Dr Sen.
The patients at DMCH are in better condition, he added.
On Wednesday (Dec 11) around 5pm, a fire broke out at Keraniganj, killing one worker on the scene while 34 were taken to DMCH with burn injuries.
As many as 10 fire service units worked to douse the fire. They said that the fire might have been caused by a gas-pipe leakage.
Meanwhile, after primary investigations, the Fire Service and Civil Defence found the factory owner was negligent in addressing the fire hazard issues.
