Secretariat area declared 'no-horn zone'

In a statement on Sunday (Dec 8), the environment ministry said that the area has been declared as a 'no-horn zone'.
The zone includes, Zero Point, Paltan intersection, Secretariat Link Road, it said before requesting vehicles to avoid using horns.
Offenders will have to face legal actions in line with the Environment Conservation Act 1995, added the statement.
According to the law, honking in designated quiet zones will lead to a jail term up to one month or Tk 5,000 fine or both for first time offenders. A similar offence will result in up to six months in jail or Tk 10,000 fine or both.
