Combination of photos shows Nurul Haque Nur and Golam Rabbani.Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) Vice President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur should step down following allegations of corruption, says the union's General Secretary Golam Rabbani.
Pro-Awami League Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) panel members of DUCSU, headed by Rabbani, made the call during a media briefing on the campus on Sunday (Dec 8).
Rabbani, who recently resigned as the BCL general secretary following controversies, claimed that he himself has never abused his office as the DUCSU general secretary.
“There are documented evidences of Nur’s abuse of office,” he said.
At the media call, DUCSU member Rakib Hossain Rakib read out a written speech demanding Nur to step down.
It said that Nur should be investigated for corruption, which was revealed in a leaked phone call conversation.
The statement reads DUCSU panel members will file a motion of no confidence to the vice-chancellor, the ex officio president of DUCSU, if the VP doesn't resign.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, VP Nur dismissed the allegations levelled against him and claimed that it was a bid to foil student welfare activities.
He said, “They [DUCSU panel members] have brought graft allegations in recruitments, tenders.”
“Is it at all possible that I am able to exert more authority [on campus affairs] than the ruling party's student front?” he added.
On Dec 3, a conversation between VP Nur and an expatriate Bangladeshi over a monetary contract was leaked on a private channel.
In the audio clip, the expatriate asked Nur to send his bank details along with an email address.
