File photo shows Attorney General Mahbubey Alam addressing the media on Nov 22, 201 at his city residence.

Blaming BNP chief Khaleda Zia's counsels for not acting to avoid the chaos in Supreme Court on Thursday (Dec 5), Attorney General Mahbubey Alam claimed that junior pro-BNP lawyers wanted to create pressure on the top court.
“Several unknown lawyers created a ruckus in the Appellate Division. What was most saddening is senior counsels didn’t do anything to stop it. They [junior lawyers] wanted to pressurise the top court,” he said on Thursday (Dec 5).
Earlier in day, pro-BNP lawyers raised hullabaloo at the bail hearing of Khaleda in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case, which prompted all the six Appellate Division judges, including Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, leaving the courtroom.
Pro-BNP junior lawyers refused to leave the courtroom demanding that the next hearing date be set for Dec 8 instead of Dec 12.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Attorney General Alam urged the chief justice to take action against them.
Pro-BNP lawyers’ attempt “is tantamount to contempt of court. The chaos they made is unprecedented. The judges at one stage were forced to leave the courtroom, it was disgusting. We condemn such anarchy,” he said.
Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Amin Uddin, who also spoke at the briefing, too demanded strong action against such unruly acts inside courtroom, reports BSS.
“I never witnessed such incident at Supreme Court. It is sad. I strongly condemn these acts. They again proved the fact that they do not believe in rule of law. They do not believe in court and judiciary,” he was quoted by BSS as saying.
Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, a platform for pro-liberation lawyers, member secretary Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh protested such acts saying “it was an evil attempt to destabilize the courtroom.
“Other lawyers would prevent this evil attempt of BNP to tarnish the image of judiciary,” he added.
