The Supreme Court has set Jan 14 to deliver its verdict against the appeal of Syed Mohammad Qaiser, sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
An Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain gave the order on Tuesday (Dec 3).
On Jan 19, 2015, Jatiya Party leader Qaiser moved the top court against the death penalty handed to him by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 in 2014.
He has also sought revocation of the verdict in addition to an acquittal.
Qaiser, who served as agriculture state minister during the 1989 autocrat regime of HM Ershad has been convicted for genocide, arson, murder, torture, looting and rape during 1971.
Out of the 16 allegations brought against him, 14 were proven. He was sentenced to death for seven out of the 14 and given different prison terms for the rest.
