The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have categorized offences, along with punishments, for students found involved in ragging and political activities in the university.
The university authorities issued a circular in this regard on Monday (Dec 2).
The offender(s), who are found guilty of ragging that leads to death, serious bodily harm, any form of disability, permanent mental imbalance or trauma, or disruption of the academic life of a fellow student will be expelled from the university permanently, the circular said.
The university law officer will file a case following due process in connection with the incident, it said.
On Nov 27, BUET expelled 26 students on different terms -- nine of whom were expelled from their respective dormitories for life -- over ragging allegations.
The university categorized the offences along with penalties in the face of demonstration by the BUET students who were staging their protest after the gruesome murder of fellow student Abrar Fahad.
Abrar, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, was beaten to death by Chhatra League men inside the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of Oct 7.
Earlier on Nov 21, the university authorities expelled 26 students for life, 25 of whom were accused of being involved in the Abrar's murder.
On Nov 13, police submitted a charge sheet against 25 BUET students -- most of whom were Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists -- in a case filed by Abrar's father.
