Hours after two people were killed in a ‘shootout’ in Satkhira, whom police claimed were ‘listed criminals’, the local lawmaker has been saying otherwise.
"They [victims] were not criminals," Mir Mostaque Ahmed Robi, the ruling MP from Satkhira-2, said on Saturday (Nov 30).
Earlier in the day, police said that history-sheeters, Dip Azad and Saiful Islam were killed in a ‘shootout’ with at the southern district town's Bokchora Mor area.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune over the phone, MP Robi, however, declined to comment further. “The issue should be discussed face to face,” he said.
According to sources, the victims were bodyguards of Satkhira Chhatra League General Secretary Syed Sadikur Rahman Sadek.
According to a party source, the duo was close confidantes of the lawmaker.
Chhatra League leader Sadek could not be reached for a comment.
