The Appellate Division has ordered Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital authorities to file BNP chief Khaleda Zia's medical reports on Dec 5.
The full bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, fixed the date on Thursday (Nov 28) after deferring an appeal challenging the High Court order that rejected her bail petition in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Khaleda Zia on Nov 14 filed the appeal with the SC challenging the HC’s rejection order.
On Jul 31, the HC rejected the BNP chief’s bail petition in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
On Oct 29, 2018, a special court in Dhaka, found Khaleda guilty in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case—in absentia—and sentenced her to seven years in prison.
A three-time prime minister, she is also serving time for her involvement in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Her sentence, which was five years, was doubled to 10 years by the HC.
Khaleda was transferred to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on Apr 1 this year for treatment from the old jailhouse on Nazim Uddin Road where she was the sole inmate.
