Workers’ strike halts launch operations at Sadarghat

The Noujan Sramik Odhikar Songrokkhon Oikya Parishad went on work abstention in Dhaka, Chandpur and Barishal on Tuesday midnight without any notice, Rezaul Karim Bhuiya, in-charge of Sadarghat River police station said on Wednesday (Nov 27).

They are trying to force the authorities concerned to accept their 15-point demand.

No launches left the Sadarghat Launch Terminal since 6 am on Wednesday.

Asiqur Rahman Patal, general secretary of Bangladesh River-Route Workers Federation, said they are opposing the strike called by the “illegal organization”.

“We will start operating launches on 33 routes, including Chandpur and Barisal, from 5 pm,” he said.

“A meeting is going on between the owners and workers of the federation to foil the strike.”

The workers' demand includes to stop harassment of workers' and to stop extortion.
