Victims of Tazreen fire tragedy remembered

Tazreen fire survivor Raju Ahmed`s mother and aunt were buried at the Jurain graveyard in Dhaka.Raju Ahmed is a survivor of the Tazreen fire tragedy, which killed 119 garment workers on Nov 24, 2012.

In that tragedy, his mother and aunt were killed. Three months later, their dead bodies were identified through DNA testing.

They were buried at the Jurain graveyard. Seven years later, Raju is found near the grave of his mother, praying.

Following the accident, altogether 57 were buried in Jurain graveyard.

Dulal Mia’s wife Shahida, also died . Dulal now works in a garment factory.

He says: “Now I understand how hard my wife worked. On that fateful day, we had lunch together and she left for work. In the evening, when I heard about the fire, I rushed to the factory.”

The then sub inspector of Ashulia police station lodged a murder case. On Dec 22, 2013, CID inspector Mohsinuzzaman Khan, submitted a charge sheet at the court.

On Sept 3, 2015, the court began framing charges against the accused.
