Naimul AbrarThe Residential Model College has opened an inquiry over a ninth-grader's death by electrocution during an event at its premises amid students' demonstrations.
Naimul Abrar, a nonresident student, received electric shock from a power generator set up behind a stage set up for “Ki Ananda”, an event of the daily Prothom Alo’s magazine for juveniles 'Kishor Alo', on Friday (Nov 1).
Students launched protests on the campus on Saturday (Nov 2) blaming negligence of the authorities for the death.
They demanded a proper probe into the incident. The college's Principal Kazi Shamim Ahmed later pacified the disgruntled students with assurances of a proper investigation.
"A three-member panel has been formed to look into the death of ninth grader Nayeemul Abrar. It will file its findings within seven days," he said.
Abrar, who hails from Noakhali, lived with his family at the capital's Agargaon.
