Police have recovered the throat-slit bodies of two women from a house in Dhaka.
The incident was reported from the capital's Dhanmondi 15 area on Friday (Nov 1), police said.
The deceased have been identified as Afroza Begum, 65, a resident of Dhanmondi, and her domestic help Dithi, 16.
Dhanmondi police OC Abdul Latif said they found the bodies with their throats slit at a flat on the fourth floor of House No 21, located on Road No 28 in Dhanmondi, on Friday evening.
Afroza's body was found in the dining room, while Dithi’s at the guest room, he said.
Afroza's daughter, Dilruba Sultana, and son-in-law, Kazi Monir Uddin Tarim, resides on the fifth floor of the same building.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Assistant Commissioner (Dhanmondi zone) Hasinuzzaman told reporters that they held three people for questioning over the killings.
They are – the six-storey building's security guard, Nuruzzaman, generator operator, Belayet, and Bachchu, a domestic help of Afroza's son-in-law.
"We are collecting CCTV [closed-circuit television] footages of the building and examining those to identify the killer[s]," Hasinuzzaman said.
Members of the crime scene unit of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the spot and were collecting evidence till the report was filed at 11:30pm.
"After collecting evidence, the bodies will be sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH] morgue for autopsy," the police official said.
Afroza's family members found out about the incident after their other domestic help, Riaz, went to Afroza's flat on Friday evening.
"He [Riaz] informed us that two bodies were lying in a pool of blood at the flat. We immediately went there, and then informed police," said Afroza's son-in-law, Tarim, a garment owner.
He said Afroza was with them all day long until Maghrib prayers in the evening.
After that, Tarim's domestic help, Bachchu, brought a new domestic help to Afroza's flat for introduction.
"My mother-in-law went to her flat to meet the maid and discuss terms and conditions," Tarim said.
Meanwhile, Dilruba asked Riaz to check in and Riaz repeatedly phoned Afroza's flat over intercom, but no one was responding.
Riaz then went to her flat, found the bodies lying and informed the matter to Dilruba, said Tarim.
The ornaments Afroza wore went missing after the incident, he said.
"The killer also broke a cupboard, looted jewellery, and cash," Tarim said, adding that three mobile phones were also stolen.
However, the new help, who could not be identified by the victim's family immediately, could not be traced either.
Tarim claimed that the new help might have killed the duo, with the help of others.
