A court in Dhaka has placed Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) student Mizanur Rahman Mizan on five-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Abrar Fahad.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hakim Baki Billah issued the remand order on Wednesday (Oct 23) after police sought seven days' custody to question Mizan, who was roommate of Abrar.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of BUET, was beaten to death on Oct 7.
Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Following the incident, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
