Abrar murder: Two suspects remanded, one confesses

One of the suspects in the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad murder given a confessional statement while two other suspects have been put on remand with another five sent to jail following their interrogation in police custody.

Two Dhaka courts passed the orders after police moved it on Sunday (Oct 13).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessie recorded the confessional statement of Mozahidur Rahman, one of the accused in the case.
Earlier in the day, Detective Brach Inspector and case's investigating officer Md Wahiduzzaman moved the court after Mozahidur agreed to confess under section 164 of the CrPc.
The court then sent the accused to jail.
In the day's other proceedings, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid remanded suspects Moaz Abu Huraira and ShamimBillahfor five days each after police pleaded for 10 days, ProsecuterHemayetuddintold Bangla Tribune.
Moaz, a student of 17th batch of the electrical and electronic engineering department (EEE) of BUET was detained from Uttara on Saturday (Oct 13) by a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's DB.
The DB also arrested Shamim, naval architecture and marine engineering student of BUET, from his home at a Satkhiravillage on Oct11.
The court also sent five of the ten suspects previously remanded to jail.
They are Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) BUET unit president Mehedi Hasan Rasel, vice president MuhtasimFuad, library affairs and publications secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna, and BCL members Muntasir Al Jamie, KhandakerTabakhkharul Islam alias Tanvir.
They all, however, have been expelled from BCL.
On Oct 8, another court put all of five accused to a five-day remand each.
On Oct 7, Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death.
A group of BCL BUET unit leaders and activists bludgeoned Abrarto death allegedly for his social media post criticizing the recent Bangladesh-India deal on sharing the water of Five River.
Abrar's father BarkatUllah filed a murder case against 19 people with the capital's Chawkbazar police.
The BCL also expelled as many as 11 of its members permanently from the organization for their alleged involvement in the murder.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
The BUET authorities also banned the activities of all political student bodies on the campus amid the student protest.
