Rajib death: SC orders Tk 1million compensation for family

Rajib Hossain, who had lost an arm in a race between two buses in Dhaka on Apr 3, died of the severe head injuries sustained in the accident on Apr 17.The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Tk 1 million in compensation to be paid within one month, for the family of Titumir College student Rajib Hossain, who died after his hand was dismembered in a bus accident, has been delayed for the 10th time.
An Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmood Hossain gave the orders to Shajan Paribahan, on Sunday (Oct 13) after hearing a plea seeking a stay on a High Court Order.
On Jun 20, the HC ordered the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Shajan Paribahan to pay Tk 5 million in two installments to Rajib’s two brothers.
The transport company moved the apex court seeking a stay on the order which was granted after which Oct 13 was set for the hearing.
On Apr 3, Rajib was standing at the gate of a BRTC bus when a Shajal Paribahan bus overtook the vehicle that led him to lose his arm.
Later, he succumbed to his injuries on Apr 17 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed over the incident with Shahbag police and after his death, on Apr 23, the court approved a plea for the case to be filed as death caused by reckless driving.
