Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police have detained four suspected members of banned militant outfit Ansar-al-Islam in Dhaka.
The detainees have been identified as Md Shahin alias Omar, Md Saiful Islam, Hanifuzzaman alias Biplob, and Md Al Mamun.
CTTC Chief Monirul Islam at a media briefing on Friday said: "Acting on a tip-off, the four were detained from Dhaka's Jatrabari area around 7:30pm on Thursday (Oct 10)."
The four, along with two others, were working as a cell, he added.
The CTTC chief continued: "Shahin is a second-year aviation engineering student at a university in South Korea.
"He came back to Dhaka with the goal of trying to unify Ansar-al-Islam and the new Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh."
