BUET student Abrar’s family accuses 19 in murder case

“Abrar’s father BarkatUllah filed a case naming 19 people,” OC Ali Hossain Khan of the Chawkbazar police station told Bangla Tribune on Monday (Oct 7).
A second-year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Abrarwas found dead in the dormitory’s stairway in the early hours of Monday.
A resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall, Abrar was called up from his room at 7:30pm on Sunday, said police, quoting the students of the hall.
Later, his body was found on the first-floor stairway of the hall at 2am on Monday.
Abrar died of “internal bleeding and excessive pain” as he was badly beaten up by blunt objects like cricket stump or bamboo stick, doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital said after his autopsy.
Earlier in the day, police detained nine leaders of the ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over the killing on the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) dormitory.
All nine of the detainees are part BCL’s BUET unit committee, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy told the media.
“They are being questioned,” he said and added that the police were analysing security camera footages.
The detainees are- BCL’s BUET unit General Secretary Mehedi Hassan Rasel, Vice President Mustakim Fuad, Assistant General Secretary Ashiqul Islam Bitu, Deputy Office Secretary Mujtaba Rafid, Deputy Social Welfare Secretary Ifti Mosharraf Shokal, Deputy Law Secretary Amit Shaha, Sports Secretary Sefayetul Islam Jion, Information and Research Secretary Anik Sarker and Library Affairs Secretary Ishtiaq Munshi.
