Charges under arms, narcotics acts against Samrat

A day after his arrest, the elite police unit filed two separate cases with the Ramna police station on Monday (Oct 7).
Samrat, the president of the organisation’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, was arrested early morning Sunday (Oct 6) from Camilla along with vice president Enamul Hoque Arman over their link to illegal casino operations in the capital.
The RAB has brought charges under the narcotics legislation against Arman in a separate case.
Following the arrests, RAB took Samratto his office at Dhaka’s Kakrai, where a huge amount of foreign liquor, yaba tablets, a pistol and two kangaroo hides were recovered. A mobile court sentenced him to six months in jail for violation of wildlife law.
The Rapid Action Battalion has seized over 1,100 tablets of contraband yaba along with `torture machines,` two kangaroo hides, foreign gun, six round of ammunition, and foreign from now expelled Jubo League south chief Ismail Chowdhury Samrat’s office on Sunday (Oct 6).The elite force also raided various establishments where the Jubo League leader either lived or carried out political and business activities.
They also searched two of his houses in the capital’s Shantinagar and Mohakhali DOHS areas.
Samrat’s name came up in the investigation into the casinos from the very beginning of the crackdown as stories of Jubo League leaders’ involvement in extortion and contract-grabbing continued to swirl.
He controlled illegal casino business at different clubs in the capital and was also involved in tender manipulation and extortion, according to law enforcement agencies.
