Over 230 rape incidents reported in September: Rights body

Representational ImageAs many as 232 incidents of rape have been reported in September alone, says a rights bosy.
In a statement on Wednesday (Oct 2), Bangladesh Mahila Parishad said, a total of 521 women and young girls were subjected to some form of torture, including rape, during this period.
The data was compiled from the news published on a number of major national daily newspapers of the country, the statement said.
According to the information, 15 were killed after being raped.
There were 15 attempted rape incidents, five sexual harassment incidents, and 30 were victims of sexual violence.
Two women were attacked with acids, two house maids were tortured, off them one was killed.
Thirteen were tortured for dowry and from them five were killed. Nine were teased and for which three committed suicide.
Some 19 women committed suicide after facing different kinds of torture, and one other took her life after being instigated to commit suicide, the release added.
In September, there were 29 incidents of mysterious deaths and 42 child marriage related incidents, out of which 41 were prevented from happening.
There were 42 incidents of physical assaults, five illegal Fatwas and 11 cases of cybercrime.
Two were victims of police vengeance and five in some other incidents.
