Police and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) have raided four bars in separate drives in Dhaka.
DNC raided Chalet Restaurant & Bar at Banglamotor in the capital.
DNC Assistant Director Khorshid Alam said on Monday that the raid was part of the ongoing operation which has been going on against illegal casinos in the country.
“We have checked their papers and registration and also permits of the customers at the bar. All the paper works were okay.
“The drive was also conducted so that none can carry out illegal activities,” he added.
Golden Dragon Bar at New Eskaton area was also raided.
Previously in the day, police raided Piyashi Restaurant & Bar Ltd at Dhaka’s Moghbazar intersection area.
“We have raided the Piyashi Restaurant & Bar, but did not find anything,” Hatirjheel Police Station officer in charge Abdur Rashid told Dhaka Tribune.
At Tejgaon, law enforcers raided Fu Wang Club amid allegations of running a casino.
A team led by DMP Tejgaon Zone Divisional Commissioner Anisur Rahman raided the club around 5pm.
DMP Additional Commissioner of Police Hafiz Al Faruk said: “We have started the raid around 5pm, our operation is still on and we are trying to find out whether there is are anything else in the club apart for the bar”.
Since September 18, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police raided different clubs in Dhaka and Chittagong busting illegal casinos where several people were detained.
Most of these are sporting clubs who were found operating illegal casinos.
Fu Wang club was also raided before for having a bar and a casino, in addition to a restaurant and gymnasium.
Earlier on Nov 1, 2007, RAB raided the club in search for criminals.
Later in Nov 2015, RAB seized liquors from the club as the authorities failed to show valid documents in support of selling alcohol at the club.
