Three more die of dengue

Three people died of the mosquito-borne dengue fever in Mymensingh, Kushti and Faridpur on Tuesday (Sept 10).

In Mymensingh, a woman named Fatema, 50, died of the fever at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) around 8 am.

The deceased was the wife of Nazul Haque, resident of Hossainpur in Kishoreganj.

She was admitted to the hospital on Sept 3 and was later shifted to the intensive care unit after her condition deteriorated on Sept 7, said Deputy Director MMCH Dr Lakshmi Narayan Majumdar.

An estimated 59 dengue patients were currently undergoing treatment at the MMCH, the doctor said.

Seven new patients had been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours while six others had been released after treatment, he added.

A total of six patients have died of the fever at the hospital so far.

In Kushtia, housewife Mina Khatun, 25, died while undergoing treatment at Bheramara Upazila Health Complex around 6 am, said Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Nurul Amin.

Dharampur Union Parishad member Zakir Hossain said that she was admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with dengue on Sept 6.

Mina was the wife of Rayhan Ali, resident of Kazihata village in Dharampur Union of Bheramara upazila.

Previously, another dengue patient - Josna Khatun from Daulatpur upazila - died at the Birdem General Hospital in Dhaka.

In the last 24 hours, 20 people have been admitted with the fever to various hospitals in Kushtia while 68 are currently undergoing treatment. So far, 805 dengue patients have been diagnosed in the district.

In Faridpur, 50-year old Siddique Hossain Miah died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital early morning.

Hospital Director Dr Kamoda Prasad Saha said that the patient was admitted to the hospital on Sept 9.

A total of eight people have died under treatment at the Faridpur Medical College Hospital so far.

As of Sept 9, a total of 716 dengue were admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh. Among them, 300 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 416 in districts outside Dhaka.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Monday, said that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country were 3,091.

A total of 60 people have died from dengue across Bangladesh from Jan 1 till Sept 9, according to their data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be at 143 so far.

As many as 1,522 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,569 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

Since Jan 1 till Sept 9, a total of 77,230 people have been infected with dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 73,942 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
