Apps based ride sharing rider Md. Milon took Nuruzzaman Opu on his bike to take the former to Gulisthan. But before reaching the destination, Opu slit the throat of Milon, killing him.
Nuruzzamn Opu was arrested by DB police, Motijheel zonal team, on 1 September, one week after the killing, informed DP police additional commissioner, Abdul Baten.
On Aug 26 night, Milion, a bike-rider of apps based ride hailing service of Pathao, was in front of Abul Hotel in Malibagh where Opu contracted him for Tk. 50 for a ride to Gulisthan.
At one point of the journey, Opu asked Milon to stop over the Malibagh flyover. At that point, Opu wanted to ride the bike, an offer refused by Milon.
The refusal led to a scuffle an Opu used a cutter on Milon’s throat. Wounded Milon ran to save his life and Opu fled with the bike.
Milon’s wife, Shilpi Begum, lodged a case at the Shajahanpur thana and the police arrested the perpetrator a week later.
Abdul Baten says: “Opu is the lone criminal in the case and is linked to stealing and hijacking.”
He feels that apps based ride-sharing must have more security.
“One should not get into contract-based rides because this raises the risk for both the rider and the passenger.
DB police say that Opu has made primary admission to killing Milon.
