Mirza Fakhrul among 8 BNP leaders secure bail after surrender

As many as eight top BNP leaders inducing its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured bail in a case filed over carrying out subversive activities and obstruction of police duty.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari granted them bail on Monday (Sept 2) after hearing the case filed with Dhaka's Hatirjheel police.
Before that, the BNP leaders surrendered in the court and filed for bail
The seven other are BNP Standing Committee members Moudud Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Mirza Abbas, Gaieshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Organizing Secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu.
The BNP leaders' surrender follows an Appellate Division order on Apr 18 that told 16 BNP leaders to surrender within two weeks of the order reaching the lower court.
The order reached the trial court on Aug 21.
The Appellate Division told the lower court to take into consideration their bail plea should they appeal after surrendering.
On Oct 2 last year, police brought charges of subversive activities and obstruction of police duty against 55 BNP leaders.
According to the case document, BNP supporters hurled crude bombs on police in the city’s Moghbazar on Jul 31, 2018, hours after the party’s rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan.
