Two policemen have been injured after a crude bomb was hurled at him in Dhaka's Science Lab intersection, one of the capital’s busiest points.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Shahabuddin, 35, and constable Aminul, 40, sustained injuries after the bomb exploded there a little after 9pm on Saturday (Aug 31), Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Commissioner (New Market zone) Saiful Islam told Bangla Tribune.
ASI Shahabuddin was with the protocol team of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam, he added.
The injured were given the first aid at a local hospital before shifting to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Of them, Shahabuddin received injuries on his hands and legs while Aminul sustained wounds on the hands.
No arrest was reported.
Higher officials from the Dhaka metro police visited the scene.
When asked whether this was a militant attack, DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said they cannot say anything specifically as yet.
"We are investigating the matter," he added.
Earlier, police also came under the crude bomb attack twice in the capital's Gulistan and Malibagh.
