Two people, including a woman, have died of mosquito-borne disease dengue in Khulna and Mymensingh on Wednesday (Aug 28), report correspondents.
In Khulna, 55-year-old female Sahida from Posharibunia village in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur district, died around 4:30am on Wednesday at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
She was admitted to the hospital around 7:40pm on Tuesday, said Shoilendranath Biswas, resident physician of KMCH.
In Mymensingh, 30-year-old Hafizul Islam, a readymade garment worker from Trishal upazila, died while being treated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) around 3am on Wednesday.
Dr Laxmi Narayan Majumdar, deputy director of MMCH, said "Hafizul was diagnosed with dengue when he was in Dhaka. He returned home after receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)."
“Hafizul came to MMCH with high fever on Tuesday (Aug 27) night,” Manumdar said.
DEATH TOLL
According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) collected data, a total 52 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till August 27. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 120, so far.
In the same time-frame, a total of 66,604 people were affected by dengue. Among those admitted, a total of 60,569 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
DGHS, in a press release issued on Tuesday, said the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined is 5,322.
A total of 2,999 patients are currently receiving treatment in different government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a total of 2,323 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the release said.
