A female government official has lost her leg after a bus veered off the road and ran over her in Dhaka.
Fifty-two-year Krishna Roy, Assistant Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), has lost her leg when a Trust Paribahan bus lost control and climbed onto a footpath around 2 pm in Bangla Motor area on Tuesday (Aug 27), said police.
BIWTC Public Relation Officer Nazrul Islam told Bangla Tribune that Krishna was waiting for transport on the east side of the Bangla Motor foot bridge after leaving office in the afternoon when the accident occurred.
She was initially rushed to Holy Family Hospital by the passers-by and was now undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation.
Police had seized the bus and were trying to catch the driver who managed to escape after the accident, said Hatirjheel police Officer in Charge (OC) Abdur Rashid.
