War crimes: Rajshahi's Samad to walk the gallows

Md Abdus Samad MusaThe International Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday (Aug 27) sentenced a Razakar member to death on charge of genocide during the War of Independence.
The member of auxiliary force of occupation Pakistan military Razakar Bahini, Abdus Samad alias Firoz kha alias Musa, of Puthia in Rajshahi will be hanged on the counts of genocide charge.
Tribunal chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam read out the operative part of the verdict.
Earlier on Jul 8, the ICT kept the judgement on CAV, (a Latin legal term meaning the court awaits judgement) after conclusion of arguments by the prosecution and defence.
The testimonies of 15 prosecution witnesses were recorded in the case while no witnesses could be produced to testify in favour of the accused.
The tribunal indicted Musa who also went by the aliases of Firoz Kha and Musa Razakar, a resident of Puthia of Rajshahi, on Sep 9, 2018.
He was shown arrested in the case on Jan 4, 2017 and produced in court following which the court sent him to prison.
On April 12, 2018, the investigation agency formally brought five charges against him, include looting and setting fire to houses in Pashchimbhag and Getia village, killing five people and torturing 21 others.
