Nusrat Jahan RafiA report has been submitted at the High Court, dispelling several media reports that the then chairman of a Feni madrasa and Additional District Magistrate PK Enamul Karim had been inactive and negligent in the events leading to the death of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The report was submitted to the bench of justices FRM Nazmul Ahasan and KM Kamrul Kader by Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar on Monday (Aug 26).
On Apr 6, madrasa student Nusrat was called to the roof from an exam hall of Sonagazi Islamia Madrasa by masked miscreants, who then set her on fire.
Before setting her on fire, the culprits asked her to withdraw the case of sexual harassment against now suspended madrasa principal, Siraj-ud-Daula.
Sustaining heavy burns, Nusrat died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
On 21 June, a national daily ran a report questioning the role of additional district magistrate, Enamul.
The report stated that when Nusrat and her mother went to Enamul Karim’s office to ask for justice, he asked them to forget the matter.
The report further mentioned that Enamul castigated Nusrat and her mother for lodging a case and then told her that she had concocted this plan to put her father in the principal’s position.
