The High Court has issued a rule seeking details of the action taken against mob lynching incidences over child lifting and those accused of participating in the lynching.
The HC told the home secretary and the Inspector General of Police to submit the findings in a report within Nov 28.
The court has also issued a rule asking why the respondents’ inability to protect Badda mob lynching victim Taslima Begum Renu and others like her should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule on Monday (Aug 26).
Taslima Begum Renu was lynched when she went to enroll her child at a school in Badda of Dhaka on Jul 20.
Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan filed a writ petition over the incident at the HC on Jul 28 seeking Tk 50 million in compensation for Taslima’s family.
The writ sought a rule for enacting a separate act to punish those who participated in mob lynching and to have the respondents’ failure to protect the victim declared illegal.
The cabinet secretary, home secretary, law secretary, information secretary, DIG of police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Officer in Charge of Badda police station were made respondents to the writ.
