BNP's Tasvir arrested over FR Tower design forgery

FILE PHOTOThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested one of the FR Tower landowners Tasvir-Ul-Islam in a case filed over adding illegal floors to the building by forging the original design of the structure.
The arrest was made at the capital’s Segunbagicha area around 3:30pm on Sunday (Aug 18), ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told Bangla Tribune.
A Central BNP committee member and Kurigram BNP President, Tasvir is the managing director of Quasem Dry Cells.
Earlier on Jun 25, Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddiqui of the graft watchdog filed two cases against 23 people over irregularities and corruption regarding the construction of FR Tower at the capital’s posh area Banani.
BNP leader Tasvir and Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul were named in the cases altogether.
On Mar 28, a deadly fire in FR Tower claimed 26 lives and injured more than 70.
Multiple inquiries were open to probe the incident and determine the ones responsible for the design malpractice that ended up killing and injuring so many.

On Jul 30, ACC arrested Rajuk Assistant Director Shah Md Badrul Alam in the same case.
