Restrictions have been imposed on flying drones in the skies of Dhaka without permission from the concerned authorities.

The ban was imposed through a statement signed by Dhaka metro police’s Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia on Tuesday (Aug 13), said DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) Obaidur Rahman Shameem.

According to the statement, flying of drones for any purpose without the required approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh is a punishable offence.

The ban was imposed as the flying of unapproved drones in Dhaka city may act as a threat to public security and create panic among them, it added.

The additional security measure had been taken as the DMP had intelligence thatanti‑government quarters and extremist organisations were trying to create anarchy centring the month of August, said a DMP official.
