A journalist, his wife and two others were killed in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Bogura and Gopalganj districts.
In Sirajganj, a Naogaon-bound Skyline bus ran over a van on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Raiganj upazila, killing a journalist and his wife.
The accident happened in the Godaipur Jorbridge area on Sunday morning.
The deceased are Rafiqul Islam Jinnah, a correspondent of local newspaper The Daily Satmatha, and his wife Morsheda Khatun.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raiganj police station Panchananda Sarker said, “Morsheda died on the spot and Rafiqul was severely injured.”
“Rafiqul was rescued and admitted to local health complex. He was later shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) where he diedwhile undergoing treatment,” said Serajul Islam, officer‑in-charge of Raiganj fire station.
Police could neither capture the bus nor arrest the driver.
In Bogura, a bus ran over two brothers while they were crossing the highway in Dhunot crossing of Sherpur upazila, killing one and injuring the other.
The accident occurred early Sunday.
The deceased is Aminul Islam, 25, son of Shah Ali from Berabari village of Sariakandi upazila.
OC of Sherpur police station Humayun Kabir said, “Aminul died on the spot and his younger brother Anwar Hossain was severely injured.
Anwar, 22, was rescued and admitted to SZMC, the OC added.
Sub-inspector of Medical police outpost, Abdul Aziz Mondol, said, “Anwar is now out of danger.”
A case has been filed with Sherpur police in this connection.
In Gopalganj, a man was killed as a Barisal-bound truck ran over his motorcycle in Kotalipara upazila.
The accident happened in Sikirbazar area on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased is Toriqul Islam, 22, son of Siddique Sheikh from Chitrapara village of the same upazila.
OC of Kotalipara police station Sheikh Lutpor Rahman said, “Toriqul was severely injured in the accident. Locals rescued him and admitted him to Kotalipara Upazlia Health Complex.”
“He was then shifted to Gopalganj General Hospital, where he died the following night,” he added.
The driver managed to flee but the truck was in police custody.
